GYROKINESIS® Group Class * Saturdays 10-11:30am
Instructor: Andrea McGinnis
Gyrokinesis® an original, total-body conditioning method created by Juliu Horvath, the founder of the acclaimed Gyrotonic® Method, similar in movement fundamentals, but instead held without the use of specialized equipment. Through carefully crafted exercise sequences composed of wave-like, spiraling, movements flowing together seamlessly in rhythmic repetitions with specific corresponding breath, this holistic, mat-based class gently works the entire body, elongating the musculature, opening energy pathways, stimulating the nervous, circulatory and lymphatic systems, strengthening deep-core connection, and increasing range of motion; resulting in a dynamic, yet relaxed, sense of functional, supple, and coordinated strength throughout the entire body.
This circular, non-linear, ebb-and-flow quality of movement signature to both Gyrokinesis® and Gyrotonic® honors the natural, fluid, spiraled anatomy of the body. With roots in Yoga, Tai Chi, gymnastics, and dance, these unique, rejuvenating systems help to re-educate the body in developing a deeper overall sense of flexibility, power, ease and efficiency of movement. Unlike most conventional exercise where linear or isolated movement patterns are performed creating uncoordinated strength, the smooth shifting from contraction to expansion throughout the entire body is instead emphasized, decompressing joints, releasing and strengthening ligaments & bringing balance to the musculoskeletal structure.
The Gyrokinesis® method is practiced under the instruction of a Certified Gyrokinesis® Trainer.
"My personal approach as an instructor is to guide you into a deeper physical connection and sense of internal listening to the communication within your own system, with utmost respect, reverence and care." - Andrea McGinnis

About the Instructor: Andrea McGinnis
As a professional dancer, bodywork practitioner, personal trainer & movement instructor, Andrea's masterful embodiment and expertise in the somatic arts comes firsthand through her lifelong dedication to creatively expressing & exploring the body. A former ballerina with the San Francisco Ballet for 4 years, she continues to dance ballet/modern professionally, currently performing with SoulSkin Dance & Metamorphosis Ballet.
Profoundly impacted by the work of Continuum Movement, which she first encountered over a decade ago, she has studied intensively with master teachers of this field, including the Emilie Conrad, Susan Harper, Mariane Karou, & Cass Phelps. At the core of her personal practice, and all her offerings, her depth with this practice has inspired her to share from within her own experience. She will be offering exploratory movement workshops born from the depth of this inquiry, and based on the principles of this practice.
Andrea is also a licensed massage therapist (since 2012), and enjoys offering her dynamic bodywork sessions throughout the Bay Area.
“I believe that one's own innate connection with the body and ability to freely express and engage through it, is one of the most precious joys and gifts of being alive. To inspire others to actively participate in the physical frontier of their own evolution, to which there is no upper limit of growth & intricacy, is my passion and purpose in sharing movement in all it's forms." ~Andrea
